Doctoral Thesis Completion Grant

The University of Ghana invites applications for the 2025 Doctoral Thesis Completion Grant, offered under the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation funded project, Enhancing Capacity and Postgraduate Education in the Humanities+ (ENCAPEH+). These competitive awards are designed to help final-year PhD and extension students to dedicate focused time to completing their thesis and improving its quality.

Eligibility Criteria

Applications are open to final-year PhD and extension students in the humanities and humanistic social sciences who can complete their thesis within the 2025/2026 academic year. Priority will be given to students who demonstrate financial need, including women, students with disabilities, individuals from under-resourced communities and those with strong departmental recommendations.

Applicants must submit evidence of substantial progress on their thesis (at least completed Introduction, Literature Review, and Methodology chapters). Recipients may not hold assistantships while on the grant.

Progress will be monitored regularly, and funding may be discontinued if satisfactory progress is not maintained.
