Outside or Inside? The Contributions of Diasporan Africans to Ghanaian Cultural Life.

Impacted by both internal and external factors, Ghanaian culture is influenced by the long-standing presence of Diasporian Africans in Ghana since independence. This research project sought to investigate the contributions of the African Diaspora to Ghanaian cultural life. It, at the micro level, focused on the impact of Diasporian Africans on culinary arts, external manifestations of African identity (clothing and hair) and music (reggae, hip-hop and neo-soul). At the macro level it focused on the impact of formal and informal education and religious institutions such as Kwanzaa, Emancipation Day, music festivals, and charismatic Christian churches.
