The Anlo Traditional Council emerged from Anlo State Council, which was created in 1913 by British colonial rulers for colonial administrative convenience, and it rather assisted in suppressing the identity of the Avenor people, traditionally the largest society in southeastern Ghana. Similarly, the identities of the other states are obscured; Ewe historiography focused on Anlo to the neglect of Avenor, Aflao and the other states, as they lack systematic study and historical interpretation. In the case of Avenor, not a single journal article exists presently on its history and identity. To address the problem, this proposed book project served as a contribution. The project dealt with the history of Avenor from the earliest times up to 1930, the latter date of which marked consolidation of British colonial rule.
